ACCESS AND WELLBEING AT PEOPLE PLACE POWER

We want People Place Power to be as accessible as possible for all.

Please see below for details of what we can provide and are thinking about. This information will be updated on the conference website with additional accessibility information as it becomes available. Please check back often.

Please share with us if you have any access needs, please share details in the booking form when booking your ticket to help us support your participation in the conference or get in touch once you’re booked with more details. Contact the conference producer Alice McGrath at conference@creativepeopleplaces.org.uk.

Accessible and alternative formats of conference information

The conference information and access guidance notes are available in the following alternative formats:

  • Large print  - avaialble as a text only version - download below

  • BSL

  • Easy read guide - download below

Unfortunately, we do not have the budget to provide alternative formats for other aspects of the conference information.  If this is crucial for your participation, please get in touch to discuss possibilities.

Comfort and wellbeing

We have scheduled comfort breaks throughout the programme.
We encourage you to care for your needs also – please feel free to come and go and turn off your camera and mic as you need.

Captioning (live subtitles)
Live captioning will be provided during all key events when everyone gathers together in the main space.
For breakout sessions we will have auto captioning available which can be switched on.  All main sessions will be recorded and transcripts will be available.

BSL Interpretation
If it is requested in advance, we will provide BSL Interpretation for the key events. You are also welcome to bring your own BSL interpreters if you prefer to use your Access to Work allocation. You don't need to buy tickets for your own interpreters, please just let us know they are coming and we will allocate them a free place.

Audio Description
We will encourage all speakers to do an audio described introduction (i.e. a short factual description of themselves) and to ensure that images, slides and videos have the visual content described.

Speaker content
We will provide guidance for speakers on best practice for making presentations accessible for people with visual impairment and encourage all speakers to use accessible, plain language during the event and avoid using jargon.

Support during the event
The Creative People and Places Event team will be present at all times if you need any support or have any questions during the event itself.

We also have the following specific support:

  • Access Support Person – will be delegates first point of contact for any access or wellbeing related queries.
  • Delegate Hosts – Staff and participants from the Creative People and Places Network will act as hosts during the conference.  They can help you navigate the programme, the event platform and help facilitate your networking.
  • Chat function Monitors will be in attendance in each session.  We will have guidelines in using the chat function appropriately to meet everyone’s needs.
  • Mental Health First Aider/s -  will be a point of contact for everyone at the conference if they are experiencing emotional distress or mental health issues.

Accessing the Event Platform and technical support

People Place Power will be run on the EventsAir virtual platform. You will receive an email with a link to create your profile as soon as the platform opens the week before the conference.

What you will need to take part

We recommend that all participants join the event via a laptop or desktop computer if possible, especially if you require captioning, BSL interpretation or support with a visual impairment.
You will need an internet connection and a web browser. We recommend high-speed internet for a better visual experience.  It will be possible to access the conference on a phone or tablet but some functions may be limited if viewing in this way.

Getting to know the conference platform

We will provide a tip sheet for using the conference platform and a video and audio guide will also be available.  We will also be offering familiarisation sessions before the event to help you get to know the event platform.

If you have any queries ahead of booking please contact the conference producer Alice McGrath at conference@creativepeopleplaces.org.uk.
